Two weeks ago I went to a wild and crazy party with the rest of the DC Metro Moms (and Gunfighter too–can’t forget the man). I walked into that restaurant to meet my new friend Susan. There she was, wearing her “I’m blogging this” tee and wearing the biggest smile you have ever seen. A smile so big you feel like you might be crushed with the weight of its happiness.
She embraced me. I have to laugh now because I don’t think I am very embraceable. Sure I sell a “Pat the Belly. I dare you” maternity tee. Of course, never once in 2 pregnancies did someone attempt to touch my person at any time. Call it 12 years worth of law enforcement vibes. Susan didn’t care. She gave me a big ol’ bear hug and told me how pleased she was with the shirt. We sat on the floor of that French restaurant as the bartender was gracious enough to bring our Stella’s to us. Susan talked about how she was going to wear her “I’m blogging this” shirt to the hospital. Maybe it would get her better service?
Because today Susan is going to take the final step to beating the inflammatory breast cancer she has been battling since July of last year. She is getting a double mastectomy in just a little while today. So as she sits in the waiting room, “waiting,” (as she advised us all on twitter just moments ago–follow “whymommy”), I’m sending out a big ol’ Susan-sized SMILE and a big ol’ Susan-sized hug to that waiting room. And if she crosses your mind today too, I’m sure she wouldn’t mind a little prayer or positive thought you can send her way.
We love you, Susan. The Internet loves you and is proud of your strength and courage and your willingness to fight. Now go out there and kick some CANCER ASS. In fact, I see a new t-shirt design…..

You design that t-shirt and I’ll buy it. I’ll wear it on my Avon walk and have my team mates wear it too. That is a great idea!

Hi there! I’m kind of new around here, but just thought I’d let you know that another blogger already has a similar shirt: http://www.cafepress.com/ipmhe Not that there can’t be two of them… because seriously – cancer deserves to have its ass kicked twice.

Thanks, Kristen! It was so awesome to meet you and to get out for a night. I DID wear my “I’m blogging this” t-shirt, and it made me feel better about it.
And, come to think of it, the day did go surprisingly smoothly….
