The collaboration begins. Three of the four sisters working together. I’m hoping it goes better than the last time we all collaborated, which was when we were supposed to clean the house before Mom got home and then someone was watching t.v. and someone else was on the phone and for HEAVEN’S sake, could you just clean the bathroom because it’s on YOUR list?
There has been collaboration before. Not involving me. They got along well. So if this one heads into the crapper, I think we are all gonna know who the weak link is. But enough about that.
So yesterday we dumped all of our respective children in various places (I left mine on the street because The Husband was late to meet me) and we went to Big Ol’ Headquarters of The Major Corporation for our first meeting all together to discuss this writing endeavor which is 8 months in the making and still 5 months from really happening.
OMG, with the mystery. I know.
We sit down in a nice conference room and we are having our “working lunch” when a phone rings. Everyone scrambles and it’s my sister’s.
J: Oh, it’s Mom.
She lets it ring and go to voicemail.
It rings again. I tried to pick it up to tell Mom to stop calling but we get disconnected.
A minute later another phone rings. It’s my other sister’s phone.
She answers it.
P: MOM, we are in The Big Meeting.
She then put my mother on speaker phone.
Mom: (not knowing that she is on speaker phone) I am SO PROUD OF YOU GIRLS. I ALWAYS KNEW YOU WOULD BE SO AMAZING. I remember that day in McDonald’s when….
J: Mom, we gotta go! (snapping the phone shut)
My sister then recounted Mom’s McDonald’s story of how Mom was sitting there with us one day and she realized that we were amazing and that she couldn’t believe we were all her daughters.
Cue the tissues please.
You are wondering why my phone didn’t ring? The Husband had it downstairs with The Boys. He said she sent me a text message in between the call to each sister. You gotta love that mom of ours.

I love it. I am the oldest of three girls and we, too, have a mom that calls like that. Say I miss a call from her while I’m changing a diaper. By the time I’m finished and call her back, she’s busy talking to one of the other sisters. Never fails.
Hope everything went fabulously with your Big Ol’ Meeting!

They may be in-opportune (I am sure I spelled that incorrectly), but never underestimate the power of a phone call from a mom who wants to call and say she is proud of you.

As the youngest of 3 sisters, I can attest to the fact that the situation you described would never happen (especially not the collaboration!). I am however, glad that the 4 of you get along so well.

I’m the oldest of 4 girls and I feel like the maximum # of us that can work together is 3. That 4th person just tips the balance of power in some unknown direction and chaos ensues.
